IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Education Liaison Courtney Jacobsen works on an education report at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF). Jacobsen has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since June 2018. Her job duties include verifying inmate education backgrounds, completing data entry for testing and verifying adult education and GED paperwork. “I think if any of our inmates want to be successful when they leave, education is going to be a big part of that,” Jacobsen said. “So we need to give them all the opportunities we can.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

Today, Warden Michele Capps brought together a group of Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) and other Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) team members to address inmate movement in the facility.

The team mapped out the various times that people are moving from one location to another on any given day. Each “sticky note” on the map in the photos represents movement of one or more people from one area to another, such as work locations, programming, medical, etc., between 4 a.m. and 8 p.m.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Unit Case Manager Aaron Bliven enjoys some nachos at the Employee Activity Committee’s tailgate day at the Community Corrections Center-Omaha. Bliven recently returned to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) and has been at CCC-O since August. Aaron previously worked at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) in 2014, at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) in 2015 and at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) in 2017. Unit Case Manager Michael Latka graduated from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Leadership Academy in May, and recently turned his proposed action plan into a reality. Latka recognized the need to improve training room resources at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC). He leveraged the resources and connections he made through the leadership academy and stuck with the project, recently commissioning Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) to produce 32 new tables and 72 new chairs. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Unit Case Worker Lorna Ellinger completes paperwork at the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L). Ellinger has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 1988. Her job duties include managing C Unit, completing paperwork, helping with case plans and Strong-R evaluations and helping incarcerated individuals through the work release process. “They’ve done their time and they need to make positive changes so they don’t come back here,” Ellinger said. “I just want to see people succeed.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more
