The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) held a Native American Freedom Run on July 18. The Freedom Run is an adaptation of the Sacred Hoop Run that takes place every year in South Dakota. It is done to bring awareness not only to the Native American race, but the hardships they endure, as well as traumatic experiences including suicide and other mental health issues. At the beginning of the event, participants burn sage and breath it in in order to cleanse the body and begin the healing process. Approximately 50 incarcerated men at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) recently watched a livestream of speakers from the Global Leadership Summit. "It's an opportunity for the guys to hear from world class leaders," Religious Coordinator Randy Bartelt said. "It's educational; it calls them to a better place, to be better people." Speakers from the conference outside of Chicago were livestreamed across the world on Aug. 9 and 10. According to the Global Leadership Summit's website, there were approximately 445,000 people watching both in person and via the livestream.Read more

To ensure the vital functions of this job still get completed, team members have been stepping up and volunteering to do extra duties.
