The ladies at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) in York teamed up with Chapter 25 from Lincoln and the Orphan Grain Train to help package and prepare for shipment meals for those in need. Chapter 25 purchases and packages meals that are ready to eat by simply adding water. These meals are sent to areas in need whether from natural disasters, emergencies, or areas where food is not available (third world countries). They then team up with the Orphan Grain train out or Norfolk to help in distribution of the meals. Both Chapter 25 and the Orphan Grain Train are nonprofit volunteer based programs. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Clinical Psychologist Michael Luebbert explains a wellness program he created at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF). Luebbert has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2001. His job duties include completing psychology evaluations upon intake, running treatment groups and developing programming for the entire department. “No one comes to prison because they are evil or bad,” Luebbert said. “I think I can help people become self-aware and reflective, and help them take care of their own suffering.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

The Association of State Correctional Administrators (ASCA) recently awarded their 2018 Susan M. Hunter Scholarship recipients. The daughter of a Nebraska Department of Correctional Services team member was one of the recipients.

A volunteer at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) was recently named Southeast Community College's (SCC) “Teacher of the Year." Amy Doty teaches a writing group with incarcerated women at NCCW, through which she has created a blog to help them share their stories. "It is a very amazing project for the ladies, as they have been able to deal with some of the things that are very important to them," Administrative Assistant Lori Keller said. Five Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employees spend their free time playing ball with the Nebraska Law Softball team. This law enforcement softball team travels around the Midwest playing in police softball tournaments and law enforcement memorial tournaments. The team is made up of players from NDCS, Nebraska State Patrol, Sarpy County Sherriff, Douglas County Sheriff, Dodge County Sheriff, Grand Island Police Department, Bellevue Police Department, British Columbia Corrections, Omaha Police Department, Council Bluffs Police Department. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Recreation Specialist De’Marius Foy tosses a football with an incarcerated youth at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF). Foy has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since July 2018.
