Several staff from the McCook Work Ethic Camp (WEC) participated in the local Heritage Days Parade. Heritage Days is an annual celebration weekend full of activities including a parade down the main street of McCook. The Circle of Concerned Lifers Organization (COCL) held its annual banquet on Monday, October 22, 2018. The COCL is committed to strengthen relationships in the prison populace by supporting educational activities, work projects, and/or other kinds of activities designed to promote respect, responsibility, and self-worth. The COCL recognized members who completed Restorative Justice facilitator training during the banquet. The key note speaker for the banquet was former Nebraska Governor Kay Orr. Kimberlie Novotny stands in the hard hat area that will soon become her office at the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L). Very soon, she will start her new position as unit manager of the brand new women’s housing unit. Kimberlie brings a wealth of experience to the job. She started at Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) in 2013 as a unit case worker and quickly became a Unit Case Manager. She was promoted to Operations Coordinator at the Central Office in 2017. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) recently started their first DMAIC Process Improvement project that involves another agency. The project will look at how smartphones are ordered by NDCS to make it more streamlined for both the end user and the processors. #COEWeek

One of the first projects completed at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) concerned new hire clothing issue. The project team was able to reduce errors in issuing clothing to new hires and make sure that all new hires were had uniforms the very first day. It has also reduced the time it takes staff to complete ordering. “The process improvement project for new hire clothing has streamlined and shortened my time involved with receiving shipments and distributing to new hires, “ said Lisa Haussler, staff assistant I. “ It has helped free up my time to get to other tasks.” #COEWeekRead more
