Education Programs
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) established a school system in January 2008 with a high school at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) and adult education offered at every facility. The education staff includes properly endorsed and certified principals and teachers.
Individuals complete education testing at admission. Those who did not complete high school before incarceration may participate in a variety of programs to help them learn and earn one of two different high school diplomas. Those who complete the high school program earn the NCYF Community High School Diploma. Those who pass the series of GED tests earn the State of Nebraska High School Diploma.
In addition to high school and adult education opportunities, NDCS also offers life skills and parenting lessons, prevocational and vocational classes, English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, correspondence courses and university curriculum for college credit.

| College Courses |
College courses are offered through various universities/colleges and correspondence courses. Currently, college classes are provided by grant funded providers and/or at the individual's own expense. Needs Addressed: Education; employment; life skills; pro-social. |
| ESL/ELL |
English as a second language (ESL) provides individuals with literacy support before Adult Basic Education Needs addressed: Education; life skills |
| High School Diploma |
NDCS operates its own school district with a high school. Students of all ages may attend high school classes. Individuals under 22 who have not graduated from high school are required to be in school. Students over 22 need to go through an application process. Need addressed: Education. |

Provides college level education. Need addressed: Education/employment |
