A special night at Haymarket Park as NDCS celebrated Corrections Staff Night at the Lincoln Saltdogs vs. Kane County Cougars game. The festivities started when the NDCS Honor Guard presented the colors prior to the game. The fun continued as the Saltdogs picked up a win against the Cougars 4-3.

Captain (Cpt.) Darlene Warner was selected as a recipient of the 2020 Employee of the Year Award for the Operations Division at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Joining NDCS in June 2019, Cpt. Warner has a high standard of work performance and is known throughout the facility for her work ethic and energy, all while displaying exceptional competence and sound judgement in the execution of her responsibilities.

Nine men at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) recently completed and graduated from the facility’s first Prison Fellowship Academy (PFA). When the PFA program had to be moved from in-person to virtual, due to the pandemic, staff from LCC, PFA and volunteers created the systems necessary to have the volunteers and participants meet virtually twice a week.

Please join us in celebrating the retirement of Warden Ryan Mahr from Community Corrections Center – Omaha. Over the last 36 years, Mahr has used his knowledge, leadership, professionalism and wisdom to serve NDCS in multiple roles at multiple NDCS facilities. Mahr’s last day with the department is tomorrow, June 11.

NDCS staff members, family and friends just wrapped up the Corrections Month Virtual Race. Participants chose whether they wanted to compete in the 5K or the 10K. They had to finish their run in one day. Proof of completion times was recorded using an app.

The first-place winners received a $40 Walmart gift card and the second-place winners received a $30 Walmart gift card. The results are as follows:

1st place in the Women’s 5K was Berenice Mines, unit case manager at Community Corrections Center – Omaha.

Thanks to the many NDCS participants who took part in the Corrections Month Fun Run. Participants chose their distance from 1 mile, 5K or 10K and they could complete the event by walking, running, or biking over the course of two weeks in May. NDCS staff, family, friends and even man’s best friend took part in this fun event. Everyone had a blast enjoying the weather and getting some exercise. .

This Saturday, June 12, is Corrections Staff Night at the Lincoln Saltdogs vs. Kane County Cougars game at Haymarket Park. Tickets for team members are $10 each. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and team members will be in section 204. The NDCS Honor Guard team will be presenting colors before the game.

For those interested in a career with NDCS, there will be a booth with more information on open positions. Staff will also be handing out fans and flyers.

Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) Religious Coordinator Mike Carr had a lifelong goal of earning a master’s degree, and his employment with NDCS helped him achieve this dream. This spring, Mike graduated with a master’s degree in Critical and Creative Thinking from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
