NDCS celebrated relaxing COVID-19 restrictions with BBQs

July 16, 2021

With COVID-19 restrictions relaxing across the department, NDCS team members recently celebrated with a BBQ at each facility. It was the first time that team members have been able to be around each other socially in nearly a year and a half.

At all facilities, lots of laughter and talking could be heard from team members as they celebrated all the hard work they performed during the pandemic. Not to be left out, separate BBQ events were also hosted for those incarcerated in each of the facilities.

Three Peru State College students are the first to graduate from STA as part of new partnership

In the latest class to graduate the Staff Training Academy (STA), three of the graduates are the first to complete STA as a part of the Corrections Workforce Development Pathways partnership between NDCS and Peru State College. This program provides $15,000 in tuition and a stipend annually to students who choose a career in criminal justice. While completing classwork in pursuit of a degree, students work as interns at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI).

Food Service Specialist Martin Puchalla was selected as a recipient of the 2020 Proficiency Award for the Administrative Services Division at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Beginning his career in 2009, Puchalla has always shown a strong work ethic. During 2020, he stepped up and worked multiple shifts, ensuring that high quality meals left the kitchen and met the needs of the incarcerated population.
