Governor Ricketts visits teammates and incarcerated individuals at NCCW

Governor Pete Ricketts spent Wednesday afternoon with Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) teammates and incarcerated women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). Students graduate from ABC Core construction course at TSCI

Fourteen incarcerated men at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) graduated from the Associated Builders and Contractor (ABC) National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) CORE Curriculum course on Jan. 17. This 16-week course was the third and final course that ABC offered for this cohort at TSCI. All 14 students have now completed 18 months of ABC construction courses, which included the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Construction Certification, OSHA General Industry Certification and Applied Construction Math. NCYF holds month Inmate Council

The Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) held their monthly Inmate Council meeting on Jan. 9. These meetings provide incarcerated individuals with an opportunity to speak with staff about facility operations. Individuals can offer feedback on what they think could be improved. The meetings also allow NDCS team members to share upcoming changes, activities and events.Read more

Inner Circle group at LCC holds reentry fair

January 22, 2018

The Inner Circle Group and Ambassadors at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) held a reentry fair on Nov. 29. Educational, transitional living and job skill resources were made available to approximately 100 participants. This helped the incarcerated individuals develop future plans and feel a sense of hope by familiarizing themselves with community resources. The Inner Circle group at LCC is comprised of nine core members who created the group to educate their peers on community resources. CJC completes 54th restorative justice class at LCC

January 19, 2018

The Community Justice Center recently completed its 54th Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) class at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC). Over 90 percent of class participants came away with who their victims really are, the impact their decisions have on those victims/communities and how to take care of their “emotional hygiene." Eighty percent of participants rated the class excellent. "It helped me learn new ways to control my anger," one participant said.Read more
