IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Religious and Volunteer Coordinator J Epp fields a radio call at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). Epp was has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2015. Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) team members held an Employee Positive Impact Council (EPIC) meeting on Feb. 27. In the meeting, Training Specialist Garrett Cook discussed the morale of new staff going through the Staff Training Academy (STA), new things going on at STA and how NCYF can help with the transition from STA to NCYF. Staff also discussed the newly implemented SMART Goals, ideas for Corrections Appreciation Month and NCYF strategies on retention and engagement.Read more

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Club Coordinator Amber Gigstad-Lutjemeyer supervises the Defy Ventures graduation at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). Gigstad-Lutjemeyer has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2010. Her main job duties include supervising self-betterment clubs and external programs like Alpha and Defy Ventures. “I love seeing positive changes in the guys I work with on a daily basis,” Gigstad-Lutjemeyer said. “It makes me want to keep doing what I’m doing. The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed its 66th Restorative Justice “Victims Impact/Empathy/Life Skills Class” at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) on Feb. 14. One-hundred percent of class participants said they gained insight into who their victims really are and how they were harmed and damaged. "This class taught me who was effected by my crime and taught me about my victims," one participant said.Read more

The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed its 82nd CJC Restorative Justice – “Crime Victims Impact/Empathy/Life Skills” class at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) on Feb. 21.

One-hundred percent came away with insight into their “Emotional Hygiene” (how to process emotions), learned who their victims really are and began to understand the harm their victims/communities suffered due to their decision making and behaviors.Read more

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Transportation Corporal Daryl Hinz heads out on a hour transportation run in the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L) bus. He was on his way to pick up incarcerated individuals from their detail employment at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP), Cornhusker State Industries and NSP Construction Maintenance. Hinz has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2004. He started his employment with NDCS at NSP and transferred to CCC-L in 2014. His main job duty is transporting incarcerated individuals throughout the Lincoln community to their detail and work release...Read more

Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) team members held their annual Soup-er Bowl on Feb. 2. Team members were invited to bring in their best soup so others could taste and vote. There were 12 soups that went head to head to be the champion. The winners? First place went to the taco salad soup, with with sweet and spicy chili and hot deutscher kartoffelsalat (potato) right behind. Thank you to all who particpated in this "soup-er" event!Read more
