March 15, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Keeva O’Neal #49501, age 48, died at a hospital in Lincoln just after 10:30 p.m. on March 14, 2021. He was incarcerated at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP).

O’Neal’s sentence started on April 2, 1997. He was serving a 45- to 65-year sentence out of Douglas County on multiple counts of first degree assault as well as use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

March 14, 2021 (Tecumseh, Neb.) – An inmate assaulted a staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) today, resulting in a serious* injury.

The inmate approached the staff person and punched him several times in the head. Additional staff members arrived and assisted the original staff member in restraining the inmate. The staff member received treatment at a local hospital for injuries to his head.

March 9, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb) – Five team members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) have assumed leadership and member roles in the American Correctional Association (ACA), a national organization that oversees the accreditation of prisons, jails and other detention facilities.

March 8, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced that four staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff members are employed at the Lincoln Correctional Center (2), Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (1) and the Omaha Correctional Center (1). All four staff members are self-isolating at home.

March 5, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – An inmate who left the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln on May 1, 2020 has been arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff’s office. Deputies took Allen Webster #210752 into custody March 4, 2021.

Webster began serving a two-year sentence on December 5, 2019 for possession of a controlled substance out of Douglas County. He had a tentative release date of July 11, 2020.

March 4, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) -- Authorities have been notified about an inmate missing from the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L). Amanda Samaroo #99723 left the facility this morning to seek employment through a job service in downtown Lincoln. Shortly after 1:00 p.m., a tamper alarm went off on the electronic monitoring device she was wearing. When staff arrived at the employment service, they were told she had left. Samaroo did not return to the facility.

March 3, 2021 (Omaha, Neb.) – An inmate who left the Community Corrections Center – Omaha on November 19, 2020 was arrested last night by the Omaha Police Department. Officers took Kabir Haywood #210807 into custody around 8:00 p.m. near Fontenelle and Camden Avenue. He was booked into the Douglas County jail on a charge of escape.
