Mentorship, collaboration, problem solving … as part of the NDCS Advanced Leadership Academy, these NDCS teammates are taking their leadership skills to the next level.

The leaders kicked off the academy this summer with a two-day training where each was challenged to evaluate their own leadership abilities based on 360-evaluations from their peers, supervisors and direct reports. They also learned a problem-solving model that they will use to identify and solve a challenge at their facility within the next six months.

Our teammates do some amazing things, and it’s always rewarding to see their work recognized. This summer, Prison Fellowship sponsored an event to show appreciation to Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) teammates for everything they do. Individuals who participate in Prison Fellowship Academy spent time assembling the bags of goodies that were distributed to staff.

A drum set, guitars and a message of hope recently made a stop at multiple NDCS facilities. Blues Behind Bars, a Colorado-based outreach program, visited facilities in Lincoln, McCook, Omaha, Tecumseh and York. Since 2009, the group has brought blues music and a Christian message to individuals who are incarcerated.

Last week teammates gathered to congratulate and celebrate Director of Nursing Diana Severson as she heads into retirement. Diana touched many lives during a NDCS career that spanned several decades. In fact, today would have been her 30th anniversary with the agency!

Diana has spent countless hours of her career in the facility clinics, providing exceptional care to patients. She deeply cared about being an advocate and educator to all the nurses and medical staff at NDCS.
