Transitional living provides a supportive environment where individuals can concentrate on the things that will ultimately lead to becoming self-sufficient – and it can be the key to success for many men and women who are reentering the community.

This month, the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) invited transitional living organizations from across Nebraska to the facility for a reentry roundtable event. Men at OCC met with these organizations to learn about resources available to them. It was fantastic to see so many individuals excited about creating a plan that will lead to their future success!

Teammates at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) proved that they have some serious baking skills! The Valentine’s Day bake sale brought together staff throughout the facility – both to contribute sweet treats and to take some home. To top it off, proceeds supported the TSCI Employee Activity Committee and an upcoming teammate appreciation barbecue they are planning. Nice work, TSCI!Read more

At NDCS, we’re always looking for ways to recognize team members who go the extra mile, and Unit Caseworker Nathan Abbott is one of those teammates!

Nathan is a positive role model at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) and respected among his peers for the professionalism he brings to the job every day. No matter what the day holds, he is highly adaptable and goes above and beyond to support the agency’s mission. His efforts don’t go unnoticed – he was recently awarded OCC Teammate of the Quarter.

This week Class 123 learned about all the ways they can support men and women in our facilities who are transitioning back to the community. Reentry Specialists Dylan Eckery and Tyler Ladd talked with the group about how the work of reentry truly takes an agency-wide effort!

One of the great parts of pre-service training is the chance to ask questions, and this class had plenty of subject-matter experts to interact with throughout the week. They also spent a full day gaining knowledge and hands-on practice in CPR, AED and first aid.

With week three in the books for Class 123, this cohort is nearing the halfway...Read more

Several months of dedication culminated in an important achievement for these men at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). As graduates of the Thinking for a Change (T4C) program, they have developed social and problem-solving skills that will serve them well in their futures.

Created by the National Institute of Corrections, T4C is a high-level cognitive behavioral program that utilizes role playing to address attitudes, behavior, family, friends and criminogenic thinking. Throughout the class, participants practiced applying the skills they learned to real-life scenarios. Moving forward, they can be confident that...Read more
