NDCS is proud to partner with the American Correctional Association (ACA), who has championed the cause of corrections and correctional effectiveness for the last 150 years.

This month, Deputy Director Elder accepted a re-accreditation certificate for Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) at ACA's 153rd Congress of Correction.

The accreditation includes a series of reviews, evaluations, audits and hearings – all aimed to verify compliance with ACA’s national standards. We’re fortunate to have some fantastic partners who support successful reentry for our population. This week, two representatives from Bristol Station Residential Reentry Center in Hastings visited the Work Ethic Camp (WEC) to share resources with individuals who are nearing release.

Twenty-six individuals attended the presentation, where Bristol Station provided information, applications and even conducted an on-site interview.

The Harambee Afrikan Cultural Organization (HACO) promotes the idea that cultural awareness is necessary for human growth. The club recently celebrated this message during their annual Harambee Banquet at the Omaha Correctional Center. HACO explores the past, present and future of African American culture and heritage.

Harambee means "all pull together” in Swahili, and the club’s message and this banquet are a true example of that. She wears many hats as office technician at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). From facilitating the optometry and psychiatry clinics to maintaining medical records, ordering supplies and coordinating outside medical appointments, she’s an essential part of NCCW and someone the team can always count on to bring a positive attitude to whatever the day holds!

Thanks to the Community Justice Center (CJC) for their continued partnership in delivering transformative programming to the NDCS population. These men at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) recently completed a victim impact class delivered by CJC.

Through this program and many others like it, the CJC team teaches individuals how to accept responsibility for their actions, work to repair the harm and grow their life skills. #BuildYourFuture
