Women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) working for Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) have been busy producing masks. The masks are currently being distributed to the entire incarcerated population. By having everyone wear masks, it reduces the potential transmission of airborne droplets. Team members got a chance to wear their most favorite animal prints at work as they continue to rally around each other during this challenging time.

The Harambee Afrikan Cultural Organization at the Nebraska State Penitentiary hosted a Black History Month celebration back in February. The event highlighted a Harambee African Club meeting, presentation about famous African American Artist Aaron Douglas by Peggy Jones, associate professor of black studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO). The presentation also included a living history presentation of Baptist pastor and American politician Adam Clayton Powell Jr. who represented the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1945 to 1971. Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) incarcerated workers at the Omaha Correctional Center make procedural masks for NDCS staff and the entire incarcerated population.

Starting today, incarcerated individuals are required to wear their masks at all times when they are not in their rooms.
