NSP celebrates Black History Month

The Harambee Afrikan Cultural Organization at the Nebraska State Penitentiary hosted a Black History Month celebration back in February. The event highlighted a Harambee African Club meeting, presentation about famous African American Artist Aaron Douglas by Peggy Jones, associate professor of black studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO). The presentation also included a living history presentation of Baptist pastor and American politician Adam Clayton Powell Jr. who represented the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1945 to 1971. UNO Instructor Preston Love Jr. presented one of Powell’s speeches. This video shows clips of each part of the celebration. #BlackHistoryMonth
