Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) held its annual High School and GED Graduation this week.

This year, two ladies earned their High School diplomas and two earned their GED certificates!

The ladies did an amazing job reaching these accomplishments!

A large ceremony took place at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) on Saturday, June 15th, in honor of Juneteenth – the June 19, 1865 day that signifies the ending of slavery in the United States.

The Harambee Afrikan Cultural Organization (HACO) is a popular club at LCC that’s grown in membership and depth over the years. The men living at LCC and LCC teammates both talked about how they appreciate the time the club commits to the Juneteenth event.

Raising money for cancer research is the number one goal of the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha. Every year, the non-profit organization puts on the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska in different parts of the state. This year, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Work Ethic Camp (WEC) participated in setting up the massive event in rural Wauneta, Nebraska.

Furry and lovable, these pups may not be contenders for National Ugliest Dog Day today, but they do hold a special place in the hearts of many at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW).

These tail wagging friends are part of the non-profit DomestiPups program in Nebraska. Each puppy comes to NCCW on a mission to complete 12 weeks of basic obedience school with their trainers. A group of women who live at the facility are in charge of training each dog. The K-9’s are put through a series of physical tests and a series of ability testing before they can qualify to become service dogs.

Community Corrections Center - Lincoln special detail road crew #2 got a chance to help preserve a historic trail marker dating back to the pioneer days of the 1860's this week.

The group worked together to assist the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) with relocating this historic trail marker just down the road a bit near a popular hiking trail near Highway 77 and Saltillo Road in Lincoln.

The group is gaining job skills and helping NDOT prepare for the creation of the new Lincoln South Beltway that will connect east - west regional and interstate travel through Nebraska by 2027.Read more
