Community centers offer transition from prison to home through greater freedom of movement and work opportunities. Individuals assigned to detail jobs make a daily rate and are working toward work release where they earn wages at jobs all over the city. On work release, individuals are required to pay a small daily maintenance fee, similar to room and board. As a result of COVID-19, employers have had to reduce hours or temporarily close, leaving individuals at community centers with significantly less or no income. In an effort to limit the transmission of COVID-19, NDCS teammates began wearing face masks today. Masks are meant to be a barrier from spreading airborne droplets to others. Along with utilizing other universal health precautions such as hand washing, disinfecting surfaces and protective practices, NDCS is working to keep people safe.Read more

Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) Deputy Director Jeremy Elder traded in his typical haircut for something a little more... um... unique?

The team members at CSI got to design his new haircut he wore this week to add a little laughter into their days.

"In stressful times, humor is the best tool we have," said Elder. "After seeing some bad home haircut pictures on the Internet, I thought that a really bad DIY haircut would inject some fun into the workplace. I pledged to attempt to cut it myself and leave it that way for the week. If you are feeling stressed, pull up these pictures and have a laugh on me!"...Read more

The Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) took a moment to #chalkthewalk and decorate the sidewalk and entrance leading up to the facility this week as a way to say thank you to its team members dedicated to keeping people safe and share smiles with one another as we all get through this together.
