WEC welcomes with inspiring messages

September 3, 2019

As incarcerated individuals enter the Work Ethic Camp (WEC) in McCook, Nebraska they are greeted by inspiring messages in the intake hallway as they wait to be checked in. Warden Morello wanted it this way – to welcome them to their new home and reinforce positive messaging.

“We want them to know they’re not a number,” said Deanna Johnson, assistant warden at WEC. “These men will be our neighbors some day and we want the best for them as they work to improve their way of thinking.”Read more

TSCI Excelorators Toastmaster club holds annual symposium

The Excelorators Toastmaster club of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) recently held their annual symposium. Several outside guests were able to attend the symposium and members had a chance to compete in a speech contest. This club continues to thrive with a number of active participants.

The Excelorators club of TSCI belongs to Toastmasters International, a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. NSP hosts job fair

The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) Job Fair turned out to be a great day thanks to 106.3 KFRX, all the great staff at NSP, good food, and some all around great weather. Applicants had a chance to talk to staff in person, interview on the spot, and take a facility tour.Read more

NSP hosts third Global Leadership Summit

The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) hosted its third Global Leadership Summit earlier this month. This annual, two-day summit is a world-class experience broadcast live to hundreds of satellite locations across North America bringing together more than 400,000 participants from 135 countries around the world. The summit was also shared across the NSP institutional channel, and is schedule to be replayed again in its entirety.Read more

NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Sara Scdoris

Unit Case Manager Sara Scdoris began her career with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) seven years ago at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) as a caseworker. Scdoris held a degree in criminal justice and wanted to pursue work in that field, which led her to NDCS. Six years ago she moved over to the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L), and was recently promoted to unit case manager.

“Everything you do will affect someone else,” Scdoris quoted fellow coworker and friend Lorna Ellinger, as she advises other staff to be patient, learn how to listen and show respect.

NDCS EACs celebrate employees

The Employee Activity Committees (EAC) have been busy this month recognizing employees and all their hard work. The Lincoln Correctional Center and Diagnostic & Evaluation Center EAC braved a scorching hot day in the sun to serve up some delicious open-flamed burgers and brats, homemade bbq beans and coleslaw compliments of Lt. Schrotberger. Central Office EAC celebrated with a frozen treat day and approved jeans day. The Community Correction Center – Omaha EAC also celebrated with a potluck feast!Read more
