NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Food Service Manager Sam Foster focuses on teaching job skills

Feeling the need to give back to the community, Food Service Manager Sam Foster turned in the bright lights and action of working in a casino for a new role, and what he calls a better fit, at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). “Criminal justice has always been an interest of mine.”

UNO students partner with NCYF for hands-on training

TSCI commended for month of contributions

February 27, 2020

Teammates at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) graciously donated their time, money and in some cases blood to support those both within and outside of the institution this month.

Earlier in the month, TSCI held a blood drive in cooperation with the American Red Cross. During this event, thirteen individuals donated blood which will be used for those in need of this life saving donation.

The TSCI Employee Activities Committee (EAC) recently held a bake sale to support future staff appreciation events. They successfully raised $383.12 to put towards an employee BBQ and holiday party, among many...Read more

CSI cultivates new work skills

Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) helps incarcerated men at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) learn new job skills like sewing, to assist with getting sustainable jobs once in the community. They create shirts, pants, coats and much more. This man was recently promoted to be a lead in the sewing department. He has the responsibility of examining the final products and coaches new workers to be successful in the field.Read more

Water Walkers inspire through performance

February 24, 2020

Tears were shed and laughs filled the room as the Water Walkers group at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women held a performance titled “Jungle Booked.”

The group demonstrated what it looks like when you always put good choices first.

The performance illustrated the life of a newly incarcerated individual and the different characters that one meets while incarcerated.

It described an epic tale of what dangers lie around every corner even when help is right in front of you.

NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Clinic Corporal Nate Adams

Starting a new job can be exciting. But it can also be a bit overwhelming sometimes, as you get adjusted to new rules and policies, new leadership and a new culture. For Clinic Corporal Nate Adams, he remembers how it felt to be ‘the new guy’ and get adjusted to the routine, incarcerated population and teammates. “There were a lot of different people to figure out.”
