The Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) boasted an impressive garden haul this year.

The facility spent $246.91 on tomato plants, which produced 8,287 pounds of tomatoes; $13.32 on pepper plants, which produced 475 pounds of peppers; $29.25 on cucumber plants, which produced 3,216 pounds of cucumbers; and $15.03 on zucchini plants, which produced 2,321 pounds of zucchini.

On Nov. 20th around 9 a.m., team members at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) made an Emergency Response Team (ERT) call for a “staff member down.” Team members responded to the area where Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) team member Rolande (Rolly) Nielsen Jr. had collapsed while escorting a CSI truck. When team members arrived on scene and assessed Nielsen, he had no pulse and was not breathing. They called 911, began CPR immediately and utilized an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Five incarcerate individuals from the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) participated in a high school graduation ceremony on Nov. 9, but they represented a much larger group of individuals throughout the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). These individuals have worked hard over the last year to finish something that, in some cases, they started many years ago. The Community Justice Center completed its 52nd Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) class at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) for the restrictive housing unit on Nov. 2. One-hundred percent of participants rated the class as excellent. “It taught me all the skills I need to change my mindset, control and understand my emotions and my reaction to issues," one participant said.Read more

Throughout the month of October, Governor Pete Ricketts recognized 171 Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) team members for their Excellence in State Service. These team members, who have each served the state of Nebraska for 10 years or more, were celebrated at five ceremonies across the state. Governor Ricketts recognized 66 individuals for 10 years of service, 46 individuals for 15 years of service, 27 individuals for 20 years of service, six individuals for 25 years of service, 12 individuals for 30 years of service, seven individuals for 35 years of service, six individuals for 40 years of service and one...Read more

Monday, Oct. 30 marked a very important day in the history of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). TSCI administration partnered with Michelle O’Dea, Executive Director of Domesti Pups, to create a K9 program for the Maximum/Medium facility. K9’s Riley, Evie Mae and Chloe became part of the TSCI population and met their assigned handlers, who spent the next 12 weeks teaching them obedience in preparation for their forever homes. This opportunity has been under construction for some time and the TSCI administration is thrilled to be able to offer such a program.Read more
