Congratulations to these men at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) and the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) for completing this 12-week program using the principles of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

In this class, participants learn to be proactive, understand the power of their choices and become positive role models for their families and friends. The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) recently welcomed Devin Espinoza to their team as a unit manager! Espinoza has been with NDCS for approximately two years and has prior corrections and military experience. As he is transitioning into his new role, Espinoza has noticed staff being very welcoming and helpful. Outside of work, he enjoys coaching sports and collecting Pokémon cards with his family. Corporal (Cpl.) Jason Krause is an excellent example of a State of Nebraska teammate who uses his skills, training and public service commitment to step up and make a difference.

Last year, while supervising a road detail crew from the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L), Cpl. Krause encountered a vehicle fire. He quickly responded, notifying local law enforcement while assisting with moving the individual to a safe location, extinguishing the fire and awaiting rescue services.

Dr. Sarah Hoff has made an incredible impact in the time she has been part of the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). For her outstanding efforts, she received the agency’s Special Teams Member Award at the NDCS annual awards ceremony.

Her impeccable organizational and communications skills shine through her leadership roles on CNT, as well as her day-to-day duties as deputy warden at the Omaha Correctional Center. Several months of dedication culminated in this important achievement for these men at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF). These individuals are recent graduates of the Thinking for a Change (T4C) program.

Created by the National Institute of Corrections, T4C is a high-level cognitive behavioral program that utilizes role playing to address attitude, behavior, family, friends and criminogenic thinking. Throughout the class, participants practice applying these skills learned with real-life scenarios. Moving forward, they can be confident that they have the tools to make positive choices.
