NDCS Team Member Spotlight:

Since the start of the pandemic, unit case manager Lindsay Carroll at Community Corrections Center – Omaha (CCC-O) has volunteered to work countless hours of overtime to cover shifts due to other staff members being absent because of COVID-19. She worked an overnight shift in addition to her own shift for more than a week, to cover for a staff member under quarantine. Carroll was also instrumental in establishing the daily schedule and activities on two separate occasions when CCC-O was placed on quarantine status.

NDCS Team Member Spotlight:

Emergency Specialist Allison Drescher from the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) was instrumental in preparing that facility to ensure inmates were managed properly during quarantine and medical isolation. She made sure that proper bed space was designated and kept daily records of all necessary activities resulting from COVID-19. She has been tireless in her efforts to assist with vaccination clinics – organizing, documenting and ensuring all who wanted a vaccination received one.

Pre-Service class 721 graduated from the Staff Training Academy (STA) this month. With COVID-19 restrictions relaxing across the department, we’re excited to capture a photo of the graduates all together before they go to their posts at facilities throughout the state. Families are once again welcome to join their loved ones during the graduation ceremony.

Three young men at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) will be the first to graduate this month from the One Heart Project. Since September 2020, all three have participated in weekly virtual trainings focused on topics such as perseverance, leadership, self-control and responsibility. As part of the program, each participant will be paired with a mentor volunteer who will maintain contact throughout his incarceration and release into the community.

A special night at Haymarket Park as NDCS celebrated Corrections Staff Night at the Lincoln Saltdogs vs. Kane County Cougars game. The festivities started when the NDCS Honor Guard presented the colors prior to the game. The fun continued as the Saltdogs picked up a win against the Cougars 4-3.
