June 2, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) announced that the agency will manage medical services at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) starting July 24, 2017. Correct Care Solutions (CCS), the contract provider for medical services at TSCI, recently sent a 60-day notice of contract termination to NDCS.

June 1, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb). – The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) is giving incarcerated veterans a second chance for success.

The Veteran’s Service Group (VSG) housing gallery can house up to 40 maximum/medium custody individuals from all branches of military service. There are currently 39 veterans in the unit.

May 25, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes released the action plan related to the critical incident review of the March 2, 2017, incident and deaths at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). The action plan addresses the recommendations made by the team, consisting of National Institute of Corrections (NIC) consultants from Florida and Oregon.

May 10, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, NDCS received confirmation the official causes of death for Michael Galindo and Damon Fitzgerald have been determined.

Galindo’s death certificate lists “inhalation of combustion products” with contributing causes of “multiple sharp and blunt force injuries.”
