August 15, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Lucius Turner, #67562, (35) died Monday, August 14, 2017, at approximately 4:02 p.m. at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Mr. Turner collapsed while playing basketball. The incident was observed by staff and there is no reason to suspect foul play. Staff members immediately began administering CPR and called 911 EMS.
Mr. Turner had been incarcerated since March 26, 2008 and was serving a 40-55 year sentence for two counts of Robbery from Lancaster and Gage counties.
The cause of death has not been determined; an autopsy will be completed and, as is the case when an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will investigate.
