LCC and DEC host volunteer appreciation dinner

Team members at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) and Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) hosted a volunteer appreciation dinner in the LCC visiting room on April 30. Several volunteers attended the event, including Bill Hance, who was recognized as DEC’s Volunteer of the Year, and Roy Wolfer, LCC’s Volunteer of the Year. LCC’s Food Service team provided a lovely meal consisting of lemon pepper chicken, rice pilaf, asparagus and a choice of dessert.Read more

Ron Gustafson inspires at TSCI

Incarcerated individuals at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) were given the opportunity to interact with motivational speaker and author Ron “Gus” Gustafson on April 23. Gustafson, author of “Fully Armed,” shared his story of losing his arm and shoulder in a tragic accident as a child and how he has been able to cope and use his sense of humor to thrive in spite of his circumstances. Thirteen men attended the presentation, where Gustafson demonstrated skills that he has acquired in order to overcome obstacles in his life. Thirteen incarcerated men graduate from T4C at WEC

Thirteen incarcerated men graduated from Thinking for a Change (T4C) at the Work Ethic Camp (WEC) on April 18. There are typically three T4C classes occurring at WEC at the same time, and several participants are getting the opportunity to learn how their thinking controls their behavior. TSCI hosts EAC barbeque in honor of Corrections Employees Week

Team members at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) hosted its annual Employee Activities Committee (EAC) barbeque on May 8 in honor of Correctional Employee Appreciation week.

The menu consisted of pulled pork sandwiches, homemade potato salad, baked beans, soda or water and Ice Cream sundaes. Approximately 350 to 400 TSCI team members enjoyed a meal. ALPHA Volunteers showed their support with fresh fruit and raffles.Read more

NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Isaac Jordan

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Corporal Isaac Jordan prepares for count at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Jordan has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2015. His job duties include supervising, monitoring and keeping up with incarcerated individuals’ daily schedules. “It’s called corrections because we’re helping these people correct their behavior,” Jordan said. “I try to act as a kind of role model.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

NSP EAC hosts BBQ for Corrections Appreciation month

May 9, 2018

The Nebraska State Penitentiary’s (NSP) Employee Appreciation Committee (EAC) launched Corrections Appreciation Month off in a huge way by providing an all-you-can eat barbeque on May 1, serving all three shifts.

Team members could choose between a chicken breast, a foot-long hot dog, a hamburger, a cheeseburger or any combination of all four. Fair also included baked beans, chips and cookies.

It is estimated the EAC served around 300 people. Randy Bartelt, EAC chair, indicated that this large of an undertaking would not be possible without the skillful help from the 11-member EAC team.Read more
