The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services recently completed a Process Improvement initiative to expedite the way team members report information when they are involved in a vehicle accident.

Before the initiative, accident reports, estimates and photographs were not being submitted in a timely manner, ultimately delaying repairs. The Process Improvement team helped streamline these efforts by eliminating unnecessary and duplicated reports, creating a simple instruction list and implementing a submission timeline.

Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Human Talent Director Erinn Criner makes changes to a swim lane diagram at last Wednesday's bi-weekly executive staff meeting.

Swim lanes help map the flow of projects or information from conception to completion and evaluation. Built to be comprehensive measures, they include involvement from separate entities or divisions throughout the department.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Corporal Bianca Bryson checks a visitor in at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC). Bryson has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2013. As the pass clerk, her main job duty is to ensure that all visitors are approved to visit, and process them into the institution. Incarcerated individuals at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF), along with volunteers, created cards for the Veterans residing at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Bellevue, NE.
