When Mark Williamson, mailroom specialist at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP), retired after a decade with NDCS, his teammates knew the occasion should be marked with a cake that celebrates one of his great loves—trains. A fun fact about Mark is that he has a YouTube channel and a weekly radio show regarding his love and knowledge of trains.

Thank you for your service to NDCS, Mark, and enjoy your retirement! #NDCSEvents #MakeADifference

In honor of International Dog Day, we're giving a shout out to some of the dogs that are special to NDCS!

Teams of incarcerated individuals make a big difference with Domesti-PUPS by training dogs to become service animals for persons with special needs. These handlers work to prepare each animal to meet specific needs and greatly improve the quality of life for recipients.

Through Second Chance Pups, incarcerated individuals are carefully matched with otherwise overlooked dogs from local shelters. They train these canines in basic obedience and prepare them to be fantastic companions for loving families....Read more

Last week, Ben Fuller was in the house for concerts at the Nebraska State Penitentiary and the Reception and Treatment Center. A Nashville Contemporary Christian musician, Ben's mission is to tell his story of loss and redemption, and the crowd was engaged as he shared this through words and songs. Sponsored by Bridges to Hope, these events brought a message of faith and hope to the population.

Thanks to all involved for making these uplifting concerts a success!

Our teammates do some amazing things, and it’s always rewarding to see their work recognized by the community. This summer, Chick-fil-A and Sam’s Club partnered with Prison Fellowship to show their appreciation to Nebraska State Penitentiary team members for everything they do. They donated and hand delivered sandwiches and drinks to staff.

Prison Fellowship has been a great partner to NDCS. The organization offers a 12-month, faith-based program that focuses on character building, pro-social thinking, morals and values. The evidence-based program helps equip participants for successful reentry.

A big congratulations to our latest recipient of the Director’s Award, Teresa Royer, director of nursing at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC). In May, NDCS celebrated the official opening of RTC–a merging of the former Lincoln Correctional Center and the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center into one facility–and Teresa played an integral role in the transition.

Teresa was showered with appreciation from her teammates and peers. They applauded her for a commendable performance, countless hours worked, and a positive attitude throughout the construction and opening of the new medical clinic. Warden Taggart Boyd said, “...Read more

Being a peer facilitator gives incarcerated individuals an opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of those around them.

This summer, men at the Reception and Treatment Center walked through The 7 Habits on the Inside facilitator training alongside NDCS teammates. These men—and the team members who completed the training with them—are now equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver this program to the population as co-facilitators, side by side in a collaborative environment.

Using the principles of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The 7 Habits on the Inside program helps individuals...Read more
