This fall, Reentry Program Manager Tony Britten presented at the Reentry Summit in Florida alongside partners from UNO and grant-funded providers of the Vocational Life Skills (VLS) Program. Scatter Joy Acres provides an opportunity for individuals to find peace and joy in the company of animals, and it’s safe to say there were smiles all around at this event. The mobile petting zoo made a stop at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF), where team members and the incarcerated population enjoyed spending time outdoors interacting with a variety of animals.

A caring mentor can truly make all the difference. Sergeant (Sgt.) Shane Thurman has filled this role for countless teammates as a field training officer at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC). For his tremendous efforts, he received the agency’s Excellence in Mentoring Award.

Sgt. Thurman is responsible for the training of new facility hires, which includes making schedules, giving instructions and partnering new teammates with veteran staff for on-the-job training.
