TSCI creates K9 program in partnership with Domesti Pups

Monday, Oct. 30 marked a very important day in the history of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). TSCI administration partnered with Michelle O’Dea, Executive Director of Domesti Pups, to create a K9 program for the Maximum/Medium facility. K9’s Riley, Evie Mae and Chloe became part of the TSCI population and met their assigned handlers, who spent the next 12 weeks teaching them obedience in preparation for their forever homes. This opportunity has been under construction for some time and the TSCI administration is thrilled to be able to offer such a program.Read more

63rd Restorative Justice class graduates from NSP

The Community Justice Center completed its 63rd Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) class at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) on Oct. 25. Eighty-nine percent of participants rated the class as excellent. “The workshop helped me realize the overall harm my crime caused the victims and families," one participant said.Read more

MCC offers classes at TSCI

Metro Community College (MCC) teaches two classes at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). There are currently 35 incarcerated men enrolled in MCC classes at TSCI.Read more

Volunteers from Oakwood University perform concert at NCYF

November 13, 2017

Students from Oakwood University – a Seventh Day Adventist College in Huntsville, Alabama – held a concert for incarcerated youth at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) on Oct. 22. These volunteers are part of an organization called NAPS – the National Association of the Prevention of Starvation. NAPS travels around the world, assisting people in crisis. Their most recent trip was to Houston to assist with hurricane relief.Read more

Chef Jeff Henderson visits NCYF

Chef Jeff Henderson recently visited the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) to share his book "Cooked" and tell his story. Henderson, now an award-winning chef, bestselling author and public speaker told incarcerated youth about how he went from cooking and selling crack cocaine, to cooking as an Executive chef in kitchens such as the renowned Café Bellagio and Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.Read more

NSP Veterans Club celebrates service and camaraderie at annual banquet

About 60 incarcerated men gathered in honor of service, sacrifice and camaraderie during the Veterans Club Annual Banquet at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) on Nov. 6.

Members of the NSP Veterans Club, which meets twice a month, attended the banquet alongside NSP Warden Robert Madsen, Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Director Scott R. Frakes, state Chief Human Resources Officer Jason Jackson, state senators, executives from the Veterans Affairs office and many others.

Twenty-seven incarcerated men graduate from Defy Ventures’ “CEO of Your New Life” program

Twenty-seven incarcerated men graduated from Defy Ventures’ “CEO of Your New Life” program at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) on Nov. 2. The program connects the incarcerated men, known throughout the course as Entrepreneurs in Trainings (EITs) with local business leaders and community volunteers who help them develop resumes and pitch business ideas. Twenty-eight volunteers attended the graduation, some travelling from as far as Wisconsin, New Jersey and California.
