The Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) hosted a program called Inner Circle/Winner Circle on Oct. 2. Three individuals who were previously incarcerated at NCYF came in to speak with the current NCYF population. Two are currently in Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) community corrections centers and one is on parole. The goal of the Inner Circle/Winner Circle program is to allow individuals to share their journey through the NDCS system with the NCYF population. The Nebraska Legislature held a committee informal hearing on Reentry and Vocational and Life Skills (VLS) services at the Nebraska State Capitol yesterday. Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) Case Manager Rowan Taylor presented on the Reentry Ambassador program, the Inner Circle reentry program, and facilitating Thinking for a Change (T4C) -- a cognitive behavioral program.Read more

Incarcerated women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) recently trained Travis, a reading dog, who now works at the Lincoln Mall. The pupose of a reading dog is to allow children who are having trouble with reading for whatever reason to use the dog to read to. This eliminates the fear of being laughed at or rejected. NCCW is working hand in hand with Domesti-Pups in developing a new training program for Emotional Support (ES) dogs.
