LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts, in accordance with an executive order from President Donald J. Trump, announced that state buildings will be closed and teammates will be granted a day of leave on Christmas Eve which will be observed on Monday, December 24, 2018.

State law provides that whenever the President gives federal employees paid time off, the State of Nebraska shall grant the same benefit to state teammates. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Officer Brian Waldecker checks in another team member's supplies at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC). Waldecker has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2013. As the front entrance and turnkey officer, his main job duty is to provide security to the front entrance of the facility. Waldecker said that he enjoys his job because he gets to interact with all staff from different divisions every day. Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) recently graduated its 5th class of Alpha. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring faith, typically run over sixteen weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome. Congratulations!Read more

A local church in McCook offers free clothing and household items to the surrounding community during a monthly giveaway. A group of participants from the Work Ethic Camp (WEC), volunteered their time and labor to set up for the giveaway. It takes over 25 tables, 10 clothing racks, and over 50 totes of items to set up this project monthly. Without the help of the WEC participants, this project would take days to set up but, with their help it only takes a matter of hours. The church members are grateful for the assistance!Read more

Congratulations to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) newest Crisis Intervention Conflict Resolution (CICR) instructors. They completed four and a half weeks of training and celebrated their graduation at Central Office. It was a great opportunity getting to learn and grow with each other. The instructors came from many different facilities across the state, and they are motivated to drive the program forward within our agency. Great work!Read more
