Tribute: Nebraska correctional officers and teammates week

NDCS is fortunate to have numerous outstanding teammates within its ranks.

One of those was Sgt. David Bolli. David was an invaluable member to the NDCS family, and particularly to the Nebraska State Penitentiary.

Throughout his 23-year career in corrections, David held the positions of officer, corporal, sergeant and acting lieutenant. He had a tremendous impact on those around him – never hesitating to provide guidance, advice and support to the people he supervised, as well as his peers and supervisors. Being a part of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services family has been a rewarding experience for Sergeant Nikkol Senff. She has dedicated the last six years of her life to working at Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). She says it’s a drastic change from her previous career in nursing.

“Corrections isn’t for everyone, but if you have the heart to do it, it’s a good job,” said Senff.

TSCI digs deep in BBQ to celebrate Nebraska Correctional Officers and Teammates Week

Hungry stomachs rumbled in delight yesterday as team-members of Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) lined up for the Employee Activities Committee (EAC) Employee Appreciation BBQ.

Each facility has an EAC that is responsible for planning events for the team members of that facility. Events are held every month and can range from Blood Drives and Food Drives to Food Contests and BBQ events.

The EAC works hard to ensure all three shifts are accommodated and able to participate in these events.

NDCS Loves our Nurses! Nebraska Correctional Officers and Teammates Week Highlights RN Ann Harker

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is celebrating nurses across the state this week with a proclamation signed by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts. Nurses are instrumental within the NDCS family and take care of the incarcerated population’s medical needs day and night.

Ten years ago, NDCS Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) Registered Nurse Ann Harker was looking for a change from working in long-term care. A friend recommended working with the agency. Harker says she’s never looked back.

Friends and colleagues gathered around the breakroom tables of the Community Corrections Center of Lincoln on April 18, 2019 to celebrate something extraordinary – retirement.

Corporal Eldon Ogorzolka is well known around the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services for his hard work, professionalism, and dedication to getting things done. Many celebrated and recollected his more than 35 years of service over cake.

Corporal Ogorzolka was the right-hand man for many NDCS employees.

CCCL teammates pull together during tornado warning

May 6, 2019

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L) teammates worked fast and furiously yesterday evening when the tornado warning went into effect. They followed procedures in gathering and keeping the inmate population safe during the storm. Everyone remained secure and safe.

When Brianna Husmann went to school for criminology, she knew she wanted to work with people in a way that made a difference, but wasn’t sure where or how. Even though Hussman was living in Kansas at the time, she decided to apply for a caseworker position with NDCS and was hired at the Community Corrections Center Lincoln (CCC-L). Just recently, she moved over to the reentry team at Central Office as a reentry specialist.

NDCS's incarcerated population donates to flood victims

May 3, 2019

Men and women incarcerated at NDCS gave donations of nearly $900 to the American Red Cross, to provide relief to people suffering losses from the recent floods in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.

Forty individuals from NSP, NCCW, LCC, OCC, CCC-O, TSCI, and WEC made contributions. We appreciate their desire to assist those most deeply impacted by the flooding. Thank you!Read more
