Inmate missing from community correctional facility

October 22, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) Authorities have been notified about an inmate missing from the Community Corrections Center-Omaha (CCC-O). Charles Castillo-Hernandez #84715 took off running from the facility around 6:30 p.m. on October 21, 2019. Staff continued to pursue him until he jumped a fence near the perimeter of CCCO. October 10, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) A community corrections inmate who escaped nine months ago, has been arrested by the Bellevue Police Department. Brandon Jones (#83097) left the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L) on January 11, 2019 for a work assignment, and failed to show up. A warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested by Bellevue police the evening of October 9, 2019.

Volunteers from WEC help people in need

October 3, 2019 (McCook, Neb.) Even though they never get the chance to meet the recipients of their efforts, volunteers from the Work Ethic Camp (WEC) in McCook are gratified to know they make a difference to adults and children who live in the community. The facility has teamed up with The Sharing Place, located in the McCook Christian Church.

Inmate dies at hospital

September 29, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Anthony Davis #80194, age 40, died at approximately 7:00 p.m. on September 28, 2019 at Bryan Medical Center-West in Lincoln. He had been hospitalized since September 16. Davis was being treated for injuries resulting from an assault by another inmate. That inmate is not being identified while the investigation into that incident continues.

Inmate death at the Nebraska State Penitentiary

September 25, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Jay Witt #81156, age 53, died today at 4:16 p.m. at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. His sentence began on October 22, 2014. Witt was serving a 30- to 40-year sentence stemming from charges out of Douglas County including: manslaughter, use of a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person.

Inmate death at TSCI

September 21, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Laverne Debilzan #76529, age 77, died today at 5:25 a.m. at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). His sentence began on September 12, 2012. Debilzan was serving an 11- to 17- year sentence for sexual assault of a minor and assault by a confined person out of Hall County.

NDCS employee arrested

September 19, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Erin Slater (37), a corporal at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC), was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol on September 18, 2019 for unauthorized communication with a prisoner (Neb. Rev. Stat. 83-417).

She has been employed by NDCS since March 2019. Slater resigned her position at NDCS and was booked into the Lancaster County Jail.
