NDCS executive team meets with Nebraska State Patrol

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) executive team met with Nebraska State Patrol Colonel John A. Bolduc this morning to discuss communication strategies between the two agencies. “I think we really are in a good place and this is a good way to keep that conversation going,” NDCS Director Scott R. Frakes said. NDCS and the State Patrol plan to continue strengthening their partnership and furthering Nebraska’s mission to create opportunity through more effective, more efficient and customer focused state government.Read more

CCC-L recognizes team members for excellent work

The Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L) held a general staff meeting on Feb. 9 and recognized several team members for their excellent work. Caseworker Sara Scdoris was recognized for five years of service with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). Canteen Operator Denise Korinek was recognized for five years of service with NDCS. Sergeant Jose Terrazas was recognized as the 2017 Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) Team Member of the Year. NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Deb Prince

Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) Shop Supervisor Deb Prince checks an incarcerated woman’s work at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW).

Prince has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2003. Her main job duties include supervising shop workers, checking the quality and quantity of products and making sure everything in the shop runs smoothly.

“I enjoy seeing them learn a new trade,” Prince said. “It lets me know that I’m doing what I can for them and hopefully giving them a good chance to succeed out there.”

NDCS applauds newest Leadership Academy graduates

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) held its first Leadership Academy graduation of the year on Feb. 16. Jason Jackson, Governor Pete Ricketts’ chief human resources officer, spoke with the class on Feb. 15. He discussed leadership from his perspective, noting that his “true north” is public service. Jackson said his current role allows him to blend his military experience with his private sector experience as he works to add value to whatever situation he is in. Defy Ventures kicks off at NCCW

Twenty-seven incarcerated women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) attended a kick-off event for Defy Ventures' "CEO of Your New Life" program on Feb. 15. Citing the women in his life for many of his successes, Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Director Scott R. Frakes was ecstatic to introduce Defy to the women at NCCW. "It's the strong women who are going to help fix America," he said. NCCW marks the fourth facility in Nebraska and just the third women's facility in the country to offer the program. NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Eric Kasik

Process Improvement Coordinator (PIC) Eric Kasik maps out an Accounts Payable Receivable (APR) process at Central Office. Kasik has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since November 2017. NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Jay Wilson

Corporal Jay Wilson greets team members with a smile at the front entrance of the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Wilson has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services since 2004. He is currently assigned in a relief position, which means team members will see his smiling face throughout the facility. CJC completes 56th class at LCC

The Community Justice Center recently completed its 56th Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) class at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC). "It was helpful because it taught me how to not repeat the crime and harm I've done to others," one participant said.Read more
