The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed its 58th Restorative Justice “Victims Impact/Empathy/Life Skills Class” at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) on March 21. Ninety percent of participants said they gained insight into the effects their actions had on their victims and communities. “It taught me to think about how my crime affected others and how I traumatized my victims" one participant said.Read more

Seventy-five percent of participants said they gained insight into the effects their actions had on their victims and communities. “I learned how victims are impacted by my criminal lifestyle and behaviors," one participant said.Read more

Team members at the Work Ethic Camp (WEC) recently created the Survival of the Fittest workout competition. Thirteen incarcerated men participated in a variety of physical challenges, including push-ups, pull-ups, tricep dips, a 300-yard shuttle run and a calisthenic leg workout. The final challenge was competing in the MURPH -- a crossfit challenge created to honor Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Food Service Specialist Tanja Bredwell organizes trays in preparation for dinner at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). Bredwell has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2008. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Caseworker Brianna Husmann assists an incarcerated individual with the sanitation guidelines and how to maintain proper sanitation in the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L) Temporary Housing Unit. Husmann has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since June 2017. Her main job duties include assisting incarcerated individuals with passes and furloughs, conducting orientation, teaching Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT) classes, as well as various other duties. “I enjoy assisting individuals in their transition back into the community,” Husmann said. #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) would like to recognize and honor all social workers as we wrap up Social Work Month. The primary role of the social worker is to assist with discharge planning, serve as a resource and consultant to other NDCS staff members and to provide mental health services to incarcerated individuals as needed. Eltiste has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2001.
