NDCS Team Member Spotlight: After celebrating his 26th year working at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC), Sergeant Jairo Cabieles looks back on his time at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services with pride. He’s worked all three shifts during different points in his career. Cabieles began as an officer, promoted to corporal and then sergeant in 2006. He said he enjoys talking to team members and helping train new teammates. “I enjoy training and developing new people who come work at DEC.”

The concern about contraband is a serious one. It poses a risk to staff, inmates and public safety. Late this summer, NDCS conducted intense searches of NSP. One of those events included the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol and the Lincoln Police Department. We are deeply appreciative to our law enforcement partners and their responsiveness to this issue. It is an ongoing effort to keep illicit materials from getting into facilities. NDCS will continue to pursue this issue on every front possible in adherence of our mission, #KeepPeopleSafe.

DAS Director Jason Jackson, NDCS Director Scott Frakes and Mike Chipman, president of FOP Lodge 88 signed a Letter of Agreement today providing protective service staff members with a significant pay increase as well as opportunity for performance-based step incentives. This agreement was the result of earnest and fruitful negotiations between state representatives and the union.
