NCCW class teaches no-drama discipline

Congratulations to these women for completing the No-Drama Discipline class at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women. Led by Parenting Coordinator Katrina Hanquist, this whole-brain approach teaches a way to calm the chaos and nurture a child’s developing mind. Director's Award recognizes efforts of NDCS training staff

Across the agency, trainers are playing an invaluable role in supporting the NDCS mission. From leading pre-service classes to conducting trainings in the facilities, these team members are meeting challenges with determination and a can-do attitude.

Recently, Training Manager Ken Sturdy accepted a Director’s Award for this group's efforts to ensure teammates are equipped with the right tools and skills. Director Scott Frakes commended the team for the significant work they are doing and the difference they make.

First OCC Prison Fellowship Academy class graduates

A group of men at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) recently marked an important milestone. This cohort was the first Prison Fellowship Academy (PFA) class to graduate at OCC.

An intensive 12-month faith-based program, PFA encourages mental, physical and spiritual growth based on the development of strong moral values. This program is designed to address criminogenic risk factors and develop individuals who have the leadership potential to serve as supporters of a positive culture.

Class 222 graduates

That’s a wrap for Class 222! Congratulations to the newest NDCS teammates. This class graduated from the Staff Training Academy yesterday

➡️Twenty-three of the graduates came to NDCS from another state—a total of 15 states are represented here!

➡️Seven of the graduates are returning NDCS team members and 19 bring prior experience with other corrections departments.

➡️Five of the graduates have family members currently working at NDCS and seven have family in this class!

Class 222 wraps up final week of training

March 11, 2022

Recruits in Class 222 closed out their final full week of pre-service training with time outdoors on the range. Under the guidance of training specialists, they learned safe firearms practices and honed their skills with hands-on training.

With graduation right around the corner for this class, recruits also experienced on-the-job training this week. When these individuals get to their job posts, they will have the knowledge and practical skills to begin a successful NDCS career.

Strengths Coaches train to make a difference

Accomplishing great things comes naturally when individuals tap into their strengths. And it's a practice this cohort of team members from facilities across NDCS plans to help spread throughout the department.

During the Gallup Global Strengths Coach course, this group spent a week together learning how to coach fellow NDCS teammates to achieve their potential by using their CliftonStrengths. They also collaborated virtually with other learners from across the country to master these skills.

Class 222 learns defense skills

March 7, 2022

Recruits in Class 222 traded in their uniforms for physical training attire and spent time last week learning a variety of defense skills. After training specialists demonstrated these, class members partnered up to practice and reinforce what they learned. Repetition is key to mastering these skills and these recruits were committed to thoroughly learning and ultimately passing their skills test.
