ReConnect, Inc. sponsored a two-part event at Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) where the incarcerated youth watched the movie The Tuskegee Airmen on March 16.

Then, on March 30, the youth met with the last Tuskegee Airman in Nebraska – Corporal Robert Holts, to discuss the movie and ask questions. Team members, youth and ReConnect, Inc. representatives gave Cpl. Holts a book, a mug and a t-shirt to thank him for his service and to thank him for taking the time to tell his story to the youth.Read more

From Director Scott R. Frakes: I recently had the honor of accepting the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) 7-Seals Award on behalf of the agency. We were nominated for this award by Brigade Command Sergeant Major, Rich Cruickshank. The award recognizes the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' (NDCS) leadership and initiative in the support of the women and men who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve. Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) was nominated, but not selected for the 2018 Freedom Award. I will be presenting OCC with a certificate from the ESGR. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Margaret Chipendo assesses a patient at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Chipendo has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since August of 2017. Her job duties include taking care of medical needs and providing care throughout the clinic. “The science of medicine is unique and evolves all the time,” Chipendo said. The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) sent a check to assist Unit Manager Tanya Dana while she was out on medical leave.
