Sergeant Tom Zoucha Inspires at NCCW

Incarcerated individuals at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) were given the opportunity to attend a presentation by Tom Zoucha, a retired Sergeant from the Omaha Police Department on July 26. Sergeant Zoucha provided insight and examples from his thirty years of experience on the police force in order to demonstrate ways for individuals to improve communication and interactions with law enforcement and to make those encounters less stressful. Sixty-three incarcerated women attended the presentation by Sergeant Zoucha, who brought great enthusiasm and humor to a sensitive topic.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Corporal Tosha Benson works in central control at the Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). Benson has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since September 2017. Her main job duties include monitoring the yard and ensuring the safety and security of the institution. “I chose this career because I wanted to be able to make an impact in someone's life in some way,” Benson said. “I feel this work is very important because you have an opportunity every day to be a positive influence or role model for the inmate population.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Chuck Glenn

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Religious Coordinator Chuck Glenn works on paperwork at Central Office. Glenn has has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2007. His main job duties include tracking incarcerated individuals’ religious preferences and dealing with religious-related issues department-wide. Glenn earned his Doctorate of Theology in May, but said he couldn’t have done it on his own. “It was a team effort,” Glenn said. “I couldn’t have finished this process without the help from all of my NDCS colleagues and the Lord’s guiding hand.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

NDCS hosts corrections night at the ballpark

August 6, 2018

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), in partnership with the Lincoln Saltdogs and Domesti-Pups, recently hosted a corrections night at Haymarket Park. NDCS team members handed out fans, answered questions and hosted trivia contests before and during the game on Aug. 1. The NDCS Honor Guard also presented the colors. NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Athena Thomas

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Unit Administrator Athena Thomas works on inmate classification at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). Thomas began her career in September 2013 as a Unit Caseworker, then promoted to Case Manager and Unit Manager. Reentry In Action At New Honu Home

On June 2, members of the Reentry Unit of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) volunteered time and talent to provide furnishings and lend an artistic touch to decorate one of the twenty rooms that comprise the new Honu Home in Lincoln. Honu Home, a respite facility that is operated by the Mental Health Association (MHA) of Nebraska, provides continual peer support to those clients who qualify for placement at the home. These clients are formerly incarcerated individuals that struggle with mental and behavioral health challenges. CJC Completes 66th Restorative Justice Class at LCC

August 2, 2018

On July 17-18, The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed its 66th Restorative Justice “Crime Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) Class” at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC). Seventy one percent of class participants rated the class "excellent" with eighty six percent showing some level of empathy and/or insight in the effects their actions had on their victims and community. One participant said the following of the class, "This workshop helped me look at all the different victims in my case and how I effected them."
