NDCS staff members positive for COVID-19

July 17, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced that two staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). One staff member is employed at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). The second teammate is employed at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC). They are both self-isolating at home.

Mail pilot program to launch at State Penitentiary

July 17, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – A pilot program will soon launch at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP), aimed at reducing the influx of drug-related contraband. All mail, including letters, cards, photos and other paper items, will be photocopied prior to distribution. The new process, which starts on July 20, 2020, will continue for 90 days.

Inmate missing from community correctional facility

July 17, 2020 (Omaha, Neb.) -- Authorities have been notified about an inmate missing from the Community Corrections Center-Omaha (CCC-O). Matthew Layman #89705 got into a vehicle following a support group meeting in the community on the evening of July 16, 2020 and did not return to the facility.

NSP inmate death

July 8, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Oddie Granger #89560, age 44, died at the Nebraska State Penitentiary at 9:27 a.m. today. His sentence started on May 9, 2019. Granger was convicted in Lancaster County on multiple counts of driving under the influence. He received a sentence of five years and six months.

While the cause of death has not been determined, Granger was being treated for a medical condition.
