NSP inmate death

July 13, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Thomas Jones #74360, age 45, died yesterday at a Lincoln hospital. He was incarcerated at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP).   

Jones’ sentence began on September 23, 2011. He was serving a 50-year sentence out of Douglas County for first degree assault, second degree assault, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. 

As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
