NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Sara Scdoris
Unit Case Manager Sara Scdoris began her career with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) seven years ago at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) as a caseworker. Scdoris held a degree in criminal justice and wanted to pursue work in that field, which led her to NDCS. Six years ago she moved over to the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L), and was recently promoted to unit case manager.
“Everything you do will affect someone else,” Scdoris quoted fellow coworker and friend Lorna Ellinger, as she advises other staff to be patient, learn how to listen and show respect.
Scdoris’ favorite thing about her job is that she enjoys all the different staff she gets to work with each day, and she especially enjoys being classified in a relief caseworker position because it gives her a chance to move around and do different tasks. She explained that she feels like she gets to help the incarcerated population in little bits each day by going that extra mile by helping with the small things and doing tasks in a timely manner.
“Immediately upon her return from leave in June, Sara Scdoris jumped right back in to help where we needed her,” Supervisor Unit Administrator April Bulling-June. “She was assigned to the temporary housing unit, assists with sanitation checks, weekly furlough rosters and maintains the CCCL work detail assignments. Sara played a huge role in the implementation of the new parole hearing process and she continues to contribute with employment opportunities for the inmate population.”
