NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Annette Powers

Chances are good you have crossed paths with Staff Assistant Annette Powers. Powers greets most new hires on day one to issue their uniforms.

Powers was recently recognized for achieving 40 years of service to the State of Nebraska. She started her state career with the State College Board in 1979, moved to the Department of Administrative Services Division of Communications in 1988, and then to Surplus Property in 1991. All her various roles helped prepare her for her final move to NDCS Purchasing in 2006.

Today, Powers duties are quite varied – an aspect of her job she quite enjoys. “Every day is different,” Powers said.

She has witnessed tremendous change over the years. Changes came in the form of policies and procedures, but most notably, the implementation of the technology we take for granted today.

Powers says she has learned a lot over the years – from phone systems and surplus property to more than she ever thought was possible about clothing and uniforms, vehicle maintenance, and the ins and outs of the correctional field. She attributes job satisfaction to being all about the proper attitude.

“Annette always conducts herself professionally and addresses everyone with a smile. She makes the individual know that their need and request is the most important thing at that moment and she is there to help them,” said Materiel Control Manager Denzil Cobb. “I have learned a lot from working with her in the last 10 years and am very fortunate to have her as part of my team that I supervise and work with.”

Most of all Powers credits the people for making her job enjoyable. “It’s been fun. I get the chance to meet lots of different people.”
