August 12, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) – At approximately 7:05 p.m. tonight, Aaron Schlieker (#87675) escaped from the Work Ethic Camp in McCook.

The Nebraska State Patrol and local law enforcement have been notified. The facility has been secured and an emergency count conducted. All other inmates have been accounted for.

Aug. 7, 2018 (Omaha, Neb.) – Monarch butterflies migrating through Nebraska have a much needed place to rest, thanks to several men at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC).

The facility has partnered with the Henry Doorly Zoo and the Nebraska Wildlife Federation to give monarch butterflies a place to thrive. LINCOLN – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced the selection of four members of the Nebraska news media who will witness the execution of Carey Dean Moore (60) #32947 on August 14 at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.

They include the following individuals and their representative organizations: Joe Duggan, Omaha World Herald; Grant Schulte, Associated Press; Chip Matthews, News Channel Nebraska and, Brent Martin, Nebraska Radio Network.

LINCOLN – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced the time of day for the execution of Carey Dean Moore (60) #32947. The execution, carried out by lethal injection, will occur at 10 a.m. at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) on August 14, 2018.

Procedures for carrying out an execution are included in state statute as well as in Title 69, Chapter 11 of the Nebraska Administrative Code.

July 7, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) Benjamin Oates (62), inmate # 81600 died at 6:42 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Oates was serving 30 to 50 years for attempted sexual assault of a child in Douglas County. His sentence began on January 14, 2015. He had a projected release date of December 20, 2038. June 13, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Dennis Shupe (49), inmate #86866, died at 4:20 PM on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Shupe was serving 5 to 10 years for second degree assault from Thurston County. His sentence began on December 13, 2017; he had a projected release date of November 23, 2021.
