After completing Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training, these men at the Nebraska State Penitentiary are eager to make a positive difference in the lives of those around them.

The relationships formed through IPS serve as a vehicle with which peers can begin moving toward pro-social change. Individuals learn to have a connection with one another that is both supportive and transformative—while encouraging accountability in their current relationships and the community.

From sea to shining sea, the NDCS Honor/Color Guard team has traveled many miles across the U.S. and could be activated at any time, to go where they are needed.

Their presence celebrates the memory of NDCS team members who have passed away and shows respect for our country through ceremonies that honor the state and national flags. Some of the events they attend include NDCS graduation ceremonies, facility dedications, groundbreaking ceremonies, staff retirements, community parades, memorial services for active or retired NDCS team members, conferences, and ceremonies that support local and other state correctional...Read more

A snake, turtles and frogs visited the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) last weekend for a fun-filled nature day with moms and their kids.

The team from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission encouraged participants to learn about how these animals live in Nebraska. Families enjoyed a scavenger hunt outdoors where they worked together to look for signs of animal life and uncover animal clues. The day included crafts, games and lunch.

There was a full house yesterday at the Staff Training Academy, where our newest NDCS teammates took the pledge and celebrated the achievement with family and friends. After six weeks of pre-service training, this group has created strong bonds and cheered one other on as each graduate’s name was called.

Representatives from Peru State College joined us to recognize the officer interns in this class who will be part of the Corrections Leadership Scholarship Program—a fantastic opportunity for students to develop valuable skills that will prepare them to become NDCS leaders. Recently the NDCS Honor Guard traveled to Reno, Nevada, to attend the Correctional Peace Officers (CPO) Foundation Annual Memorial Ceremony. The event honored correctional professionals who have lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as survivors of other incidents from across the country.

During this event, the Honor Guard proudly accepted a Lifetime Sponsor plaque on behalf of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution. Additionally, a huge thanks goes out to all NDCS teammates who helped raise funds to submit a check for the Community Corrections Center - Lincoln (CCC-L) to be a Lifetime Sponsor of the CPO...Read more
