The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) selected Captain Juan Terrazas as the 2019 NSP Warden’s Proficiency Award recipient for the Operations Division in recognition of his supervision over multiple areas and taking on extra responsibilities. Terrazas took it upon himself to improve the travel order process. This project required the collaboration of teammates across the agency from the medical department, shift supervisors and the Central Office transport team. By spearheading this task, Terrazas’s efforts not only ensured all travel orders were successfully covered, but also helped relieve staffing issues. Having the confidence that his opinion mattered, he has since taken proactive approaches to streamline other processes at NSP.
