Chandra Davis is a new recruit who’s beginning her career with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC). She comes from a human resources and recruiting background. NDCS's new teammate graduated with Class 419 on April 29th and says she’s ready to start serving her community.

“I was looking for a challenge,” said Corporal Chandra Davis.

She’s not the only one in her family who's proud to keep people safe at NDCS. Davis’s husband, Steven Davis has been a unit case worker at Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) for the last two-and-a-half years. Her youngest son, Dillon Davis has also worked at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) for almost two years, and her oldest son, Cameron Davis is about to graduate with Class 519 next month as a corporal to begin his career at TSCI as well.

“We made it a family affair,” said Corporal Chandra Davis as she smiles ear to ear. “I’ve seen the success my husband and son have had here at NDCS.”

When asked how he feels that his wife is taking a similar career path, Unit Case Worker Steven Davis says he couldn’t be more excited.

“It makes me even more proud to work at NDCS,” he said. “I trust the department to have my wife and children working here.”

 “I think it’s great,” said son, Dillon Davis.

Shandra Davis was excited to have her husband and son at her graduation, handing her, her badge. “I have so much pride in putting on my uniform,” she said.

Brother Honors Sister with Bear-Hug and Badge

A solid handshake followed by a big hug is how Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Diagnostic and Evaluation Center’s (DEC) Corporal Hernandez welcomed his little sister, Corporal Pedraza to the NDCS family at her graduation.

“I know she’ll do great,” said Corporal Hernandez. “It’s a tight-knit family.”

During her training, Pedraza was eager to learn and lead. She used to describe herself as a girlie-girl until finding her true strength as a young woman through her NDCS training.

“Corrections is a different change for me,” said Pedraza. “It’s something new and exciting.”

Having her brother at her graduation to hand Pedraza her badge was very special for both of them.

“Kind of got a little emotional,” said Pedraza. “I’ve always looked up to him.”

Now, the pair will be working together alongside their other teammates at DEC every day.
