June 2, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) announced that the agency will manage medical services at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) starting July 24, 2017. Correct Care Solutions (CCS), the contract provider for medical services at TSCI, recently sent a 60-day notice of contract termination to NDCS.
“The agency is prepared to manage medical services in-house at TSCI, and is working on a long-term plan to ensure smooth delivery of services,” said Dr. Harbans Deol, NDCS deputy director-health services. “We have already begun the process to establish positions, recruit staff, and ensure continuity of care for the men housed at TSCI.”
CCS Regional Manager Kim Gerdes will serve as team lead, helping to ensure a smooth transition with CCS’ successor.
The contractor notice cited general staff safety concerns as the reason for ending the contract. No CCS staff has been harmed at TSCI.
CCS has provided contract medical services at TSCI since September 1, 2005. The contract has an annual value of approximately $2.5 million.
NDCS currently manages medical services at each of its other nine facilities.
