It's exciting to welcome a large class of NDCS team members and to see them acquire the knowledge and skills for a successful career in corrections. Over the next six weeks, we will be following along with Class 222 as this cohort completes pre-service training.

The class arrived at Central Office bright and early Monday morning for a fast-paced first day:

✔️Uniforms issued

✔️Paperwork done

✔️Questions answered

✔️Pre-service orientation completed

On day two, the class transitioned to the Staff Training Academy, which will be their educational setting for the next six weeks. An orientation to NDCS and a correctional communications course gave the class important foundational knowledge. They also mastered a defensive driving course and became familiar with the department’s online training platform, a tool they will utilize throughout their NDCS career.  

The week wrapped up with a two-day course on Core Correctional Practices, a class that equips correctional workers with the skills to support a culture of cognitive behavioral programming in their day-to-day duties.

This class had a full and educational week—one of building new friendships and getting acclimated to the department.
