The First Cohort to Graduate from One Heart Project at NCYF
Three young men at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) will be the first to graduate this month from the One Heart Project. Since September 2020, all three have participated in weekly virtual trainings focused on topics such as perseverance, leadership, self-control and responsibility. As part of the program, each participant will be paired with a mentor volunteer who will maintain contact throughout his incarceration and release into the community.
Having prior experience working with underserved children in schools, the One Heart Project has expanded its focus in recent years to also include justice-involved youth, providing them with the necessary skills, tools and relationships to navigate life.
“Reentry and recidivism are directly impacted by the successful reintegration of these young men and women back into our communities,” said Geri Knight, One Heart Project Nebraska State Director. “The support of One Heart, community partners, and a dedicated mentor, could change the game for these youth. We are passionate about bringing positive support to the foundation of their lives.”
