Robert Madsen was appointed deputy director for prisons in June 2018. He oversees the wardens of the following facilities: Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP), Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC), Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC), Omaha Correctional Center (OCC), Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF), Work Ethic Camp (WEC) and the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). In this role, Madsen uses the team concept for identifying new approaches to challenges and implementing solutions to fulfill the agency’s mission: Keep People Safe.

Madsen started his career as a corrections officer with NDCS almost three decades ago, and has filled a number of roles since then including: unit manager, unit administrator, assistant warden, deputy warden and warden. He attributes his success in correctional services to the guidance and support of the many outstanding individuals with whom he has had the privilege to work.

“NDCS team members demonstrate endless commitment to improving the lives of incarcerated individuals by helping them prepare for a successful return to their communities,” said Madsen.

Madsen earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Wayne State College in Nebraska.
